AGA064 Authentic African Kuba tribal drum, wood, with hide membrane, 31" tall

$1,500.00

Authentic African Kuba tribal drum, carved from wood, with a hide membrane - possibly goat - secured to the top circumference with wooden pegs, some of which are missing.

The handle is carved from the same wood specimen in the form of a hand. Some Kuba authorities associate the hand with royalty.

Typical Kuba incribed cross-hatching is evident around the top and mid-section. There is extensive wear on the membrane, which is still resonant, and on the base, which has been partially destroyed.

Acquired in 1988 from Windows of Africa Gallery in Chicago, IL. Maker Unrecorded Estimated ca. mid-1900'S..
31" tall. #AGA064
