AGDF34 Africa Bobo bronze casting, lion, 22" long
$375.00
This is an interesting Bobo work of art, emulating a lion, as indicated by the simulated "main".
It is unusual in that the great bulk of Bobo art and crafts is made up of religious masks used in ceremonies relating to funerary events, harvest celebrations and coming of age initiations.
This piece, attributed to the Bobo tribe by the African agent who presented it and with whom we have had long and trusted relationship, appears to have no religious significance but is simply a contemporary bronze casting artist's creative act.
That said, we know it has an age of at least 20 years as 2004 is the year came into our possession.
It's value is primarily as an abstract object of creative expression. That is what attracted us to it two decades ago.
