African Guro tribe (Cote d’Ivoire) mask, wood, top piece, with collar holes for suspending a fabric/raffia covering over the wearer's body. Woman's nocturnal dance mask in the shape of a chameleon.

Age uncertain. Carver once known. Acquired from the collection of Dr. Mamadu Diop MD, Senegalese physician, collector and gallery owner in 1992 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. He estimated the age at ca1930s.
