Horses were symbols of wealth among ancient Dogon Tribe members. The source for this powerful piece was Timbuctou To You, a dealer who frequented the Dogon escarpment where the Dogon people inhabited caves that provided protection from rivals.
When acquired by us in 1997, the source claimed to have retrieved it from an abandoned cave. He estimated the age, in 1997, as 200 years +/-
