The Attie people are a smaller tribe, declining in size and cultural influence, making this carving a relative rarity. and contributing to its value.
This figure may be an ancestor or imaginary lover existing beyond the spiritual divide. Clothed as it is, it is atypically modest for an African tribal figure, which tend to be anatomically more explicit.

Acquired in 1991 at Cava Marchez, whilst in Abidjan. Cote d’Ivoire. Carver not recorded. Age is at least 30 years, or vintage.
