Australian indigenous bark-style painting on archival paper. ca. 1994 by Larry Nalorlman of Arnhemland/ Oenpelli/ Kunjwinjku people, Yolnga. Acquired personally at Framed Gallery, Darwin, NT, Australia in 1994.
Portrays a crocodile surrounded by other creatures of the sea. The painting uses a technique of cross-hatching to replicate the inner organs of the creatures.
Bark can only be harvested as a medium for bark paintings during the wet season.
When it is not available, artists paint Dreamtime subjects on archival paper, which is supplied by art supply vendors that travel to the remote communities.
