$50.00

This Australian Aboriginal painted shell is from Munupi Arts and Crafts Association, Melville Island, one of two sister Tiwi Islands in the Arafura Sea, about 45 minutes by small aircraft north of Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The Aborigines in residence on the Tiwi Islands are Australians through and through but of a different tribal lineage from those on the mainland.

The salt waters of the Arafura Sea provide shells as media for artistic expression and to supply financial income from visitors to the islands.
