Ceremonial frontal waist ornament worn by a man during a dance or festival. Form is possibly crocodilian, as the crocodile is a primary image in New Guinea art.

Acquired in 1986 from Casa del Rio Gallery, Chicago IL. Originally collected in 1960, at which time it’s estimated age was 10 to 20 years old.
