Woodlands Indian folk art

Stone artifact, woodduck effigy, pipehead old. #AGS002 ~9 1/2"L x 3 1/2" h x 1"w

$165.00

This interesting old artifact Native American woodlands pipebowl, carved by an unknown North American aborigine, was found in Wayne County, KY, as indicated by a collector’s or museum ID code written in steady hand on the underside of the piece.

It presents as the head of a woodduck with detailed features and long stem connection. It shows no signs of use, suggesting that it may be a replica rather than an original carving from antiquity.

None the less, it is a fascinating look back to the peoples who inhabited middle America. We know it to be at least 35 years old since we acquired it at a farm country auction in Illinois in 1987.

Beyond that, its provenance is anyone’s guess., which accounts for its small price.
